In pursuit of driving in the city you can be in for a crazy ride! To get to the West Bank, you can either head due east on the Mississippi River Bridge or south on the Jackson Street ferry. To get to the Northshore, take I-10 east. North Claiborne goes northeast for a few blocks, then turns due east and finally continues to the southeast. South Claiborne Avenue, on the other hand heads mainly northwest. The source of confusion is the Mississippi River. Streets that follow the turns of the Mighty Mississippi make normal directions sound like Greek. Locals say "towards the lake" or "towards the river". Uptown is above Canal Street and Downtown is below Canal Street. Try reading street signs or just go with the flow!
P.S. Potholes are everywhere......you gotta love it.....It is New Orleans!
